Hi everybody. Last weekend, I saw Coraline, from the director of the Nightmare Before Christmas. Thanks to my Grandma and Grandpa for buying this movie for us.See the trailer here.
The Good: I saw this movie in 3-D, and I've gotta say first that I saw Journey to the Center of the Earth in 3-D, and that made me sick and I through up. Coraline in 3-D was absolutely amazing. You see every picture clearly in 3-D, and it is beautiful, and is what every 3-D picture should be.
Other than the 3-D, the movie itself was an amazing, imaginative, and magical movie that is in the tradition of PIXAR movies. There really is a sense of realism and amazement in this movie, with hilarious humor, very fearful and scary moments, and just flat-out a great-looking movie, and here's why:
The Voice over was well done. I especially liked Dakota Fanning, who is a nice actress, and in movies like War of the Worlds and other famous movies. Her voice in this, unlike War of the Worlds, was calm and believable.
This movie is a really scary movie. It reminds you of movies like Monster House, which has really scary pop-out scenes, and just wants to make you scream. This movie does that, and may be quite scary for little kids.
The movie itself is great looking. It's very colorful and playful. When the scary moments happen, it becomes scary to look at.
Everything's great. The voices, scares, magic, and everything is great.
(As a bonus, there's a They Might Be Giants song in there, and I love that group).
The Bad: The only actual bad thing about this movie is that it's just a little slow in the first 10 minutes of the movie. That's the only real bad thing.
Overall: The Best 3-D movie I've ever seen. This is one of my favorite animated films, up there with the Incredibles, Kung Fu Panda, and the Simpsons Movie. This is easily going on my Top 10 movies of the year for 2009. Great way to start the year. This movie is inventive, imaginative, magical, and ultimately one of those movies where people say, "This is why to go to the movies." I completely agree with that statement, and if you happen to catch this movie, see it in 3-D, if you can. One of my favorite films of the year, the best 3-D movie I've ever seen, and one of my favorite animated films of all-time. 9.5/10.

Wow, it sounds really good. I'm seeing it this weekend!
I usually have to wait to see movies at the dollar theater. I doubt that there will be 3 d there. From your recommendation I may have to put out the cash to see it in the "big" theater. Out. Uncle Steve
